BUCKET, KICKED THE (3)

(slang) died. The phrase comes from animals about to be slaughtered for food often being hung from a frame scaffold, and of course they kick out as they are lifted into position. Their legs hit part of the frame whose French name, buchet, is the origin of the word bucket. —Class VIII №9, Approved November 1990
