CARNEGIE, ANDREW
ScnMaster
(1835 - 1919) Scottish-born American industrialist and philanthropist. He immigrated to the United States from Scotland without money but made millions of dollars in the steel industry. In 1901, he sold his steel interests and gave most of the proceeds away, largely to educational, cultural and peacemaking organizations. For example, Carnegie money went toward the founding of free public libraries in many cities. —HEV Approved Glossary
