Charles
Dickens (1812–1870), a prolific
English novelist of the
late nineteenth century whose books are noted for picturesque and extravagant characters in the lower
economic strata of
England at that
time. After his first
novel was published in 1836, he never stopped writing. He was always busy, writing for hours every
day on novels,
short stories and
magazine articles.
