a high-
quality doll made in Meissen,
Germany, near the city of Dresden. Parts of the
doll, such as the head and hands, are made from Dresden
china, a
delicate highly-polished
porcelain named after the city Dresden. The
fine white
porcelain produced by the Meissen
factory, established in 1710 and
run by
German chemist Johann Bottger (1682–1719), includes elaborately decorated tableware, realistic
porcelain flowers, statuettes, vases,
group figures and candelabra. The
factory produced the highest
quality porcelain in Europe for more than a century and was still making
porcelain at the end of the twentieth century.
