EDDY, MARY BAKER

(1821–1910) American religious reformer and founder of Christian Science. Her book Science and Health (1875), the official statement of Christian Science principles, asserts that matter is a n illusion and that "Spirit" (i.e., God) is everything. "The starting-point of divine Science," Mrs. Eddy states, "is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind."
