a tragedy by William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), English poet and dramatist of the Elizabethan period. The play is about a young prince who avenges the murder of his father. Act 1, Scene 3, as quoted by LRH, has the following passage in it: / "Neither a borrower, nor a lender be; / For loan oft loses both itself and friend. / And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. / This above all: to thine own self b e true, / And it must follow, as the night the day, / Thou canst not then be false to any man."
