LAFAYETTE, MARQUIS OF

(1757 - 1834) French nobleman, political leader and general. He served as a general in the American army during the American Revolution (1775 - 1783) but returned to France after the war. He revisited America several times after that. During his visit in 1824, he gave a speech at a reception held by the Columbia Historical Society. —Games Congress Gls (Approved 13.8.92)
