D.H. (David Herbert)
Lawrence (1885–1930), British author of the twentieth century. Two of his best-regarded works are Sons and Lovers and Women in
Love.
Lawrence is known for his
frank treatment of
sex. His
novel Lady Chatterley's Lover was banned a s obscene in both Britain and the United
States. In the US the
ban was appealed to and overruled by the
Supreme Court.
