Trofim Denisovich Lysenko (1898 - 1976), Russian biologist. He claimed that his experiments showed that acquired characteristics could be inherited. His ideas were accepted as Marxist orthodoxy until after the death of Soviet premier and dictator Joseph Stalin (1879 - 1953), when they were severely criticized.
