(1818 - 1883), German political philosopher. Marx is regarded by some as the founder of modern socialism. The work he is most known for is The Communist Manifesto, in which he states that the evils of capitalist society cannot be abolished by reform, but only by the destruction of the whole capitalisteconomy and establishment of a new classless society.
