short for mountain. According to the Bible, Mount Sinai was the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments (the ten laws forming the fundamental moral code of Israel) from God. Moses, the leader of the Israelites, went up on the mountain and God shrouded the mountain in a cloud and made thunder, lightning and trumpet blasts come forth from the mountain, then gave the commandments to Moses. Two of these are "Honorthy father and mother" and "Thou shalt not kill." See also thy and thou in this glossary.—State of ManCongress Approved Gls (14.5.92)
