research, prevention and treatment of rabies. The first
director of this institution was
Louis Pasteur (1822–1895),
French chemist and bacteriologist. He proved that
decay and putrefaction are caused by
bacteria and
developed serums and vaccines for such diseases a s cholera and rabies.
