a well-known comic weekly journal, published in London. It first appeared in 1841 under the editorship of Mark Lemon and Henry Mayhew. The cover design for many issues featured the assumed editor, "Mr. Punch," the hero in the puppet play "Punch and Judy," frequently seen in England.
