Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640),
diplomat, scholar and the most famous
Flemish painter of his
time. He
painted historical and
religious scenes, landscapes and portraits of kings, statesmen, friends and family members. Rubens'
pictures are full of
action and crowded with figures. He is especially noted for his brilliant coloring.
