nickname for KingRichard I of England (1157 - 1199). He was given this nickname due to his showing little care about and making little contribution to the actual ruling of England during his reign. He was also known as Richard the Lion-Hearted, as he spent much of his reign fighting in the Crusades. Plantagenet was the family name of the royal house that Richard belonged to.
